Famous Races

This famous race has been described as possibly the greatest show on Earth. The coming together of the best National Hunt horses and jockeys taking on one of the most difficult horse racing course in the World.

Held in Liverpool at the Aintree course this annual event is usually held in April (although in years gone by it was raced in February.) it is the culmination of a fabulous festival of racing held over three days and shouldn't be missed by race fans.

The hospitality is second to none and with a railway station right next to the race course it couldn't be easier to get there.

There is some dispute over when this great race started but officially it was in 1840 what is not in dispute is that this is the most thrilling race event anywhere, with upto 40 runners chomping at the bit the steam rising from the horses, the noise from the crowd is something to behold and before you know it they are off and from that moment on your out of your seat and it holds you like that until the four and half mile race is over.

If you've never been you just have to make the trip once in your lifetime but trust me once you've been you will go back again and again.

Grand National Moments

Remember Bob Champion over coming his battle against cancer to go on and win this classic race it still brings tears to my eyes.

The sadness of watching Devon Loch collapse yards from the winning post in the 1956 National.

Who can forget that crowd favourite Red Rum three time winner and runner up twice a record still unsurpassed to this day trained by the late Ginger McCain who's son Donald still trains horses and I'm sure he hopes to emulate his father by training a Grand National Winner.
